On Saturday, September 28, 2013, the Buffalo Bill Center of the West opens its doors free of charge to ticketholders for Smithsonian magazine’s ninth annual Museum Day Live! A nationwide event, Museum Day Live! offers free admission to visitors presenting a Museum Day Live! ticket at a participating museum or cultural institution.
Inclusive by design, Museum Day Live! represents Smithsonian’s commitment to make learning and the spread of knowledge accessible to everyone. This gives museums across all 50 states the opportunity to emulate the admission policy of the Smithsonian museums in Washington, D.C. Last year’s event drew more than 400,000 participants, and this year’s event expects record-high participation.
“We’ve participated in Museum Day for several years,” says Marguerite House of the Center of the West’s Public Relations Department. “We enjoy the opportunity to open our doors free to ticketholders in this partnership event with the Smithsonian.” House notes, “In addition to the Center’s five museums, visitors have the opportunity to view temporary special exhibitions as well.”
As an Affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, the Center of the West has worked with the Smithsonian on other projects, more recently on an exhibition of extraordinary firearms from the collection of the Institution’s National Museum of American History. Titled Journeying West: Distinctive Firearms from the Smithsonian, the exhibition is currently on view in the Center’s Cody Firearms Museum and remains at least through fall 2015.
The Museum Day Live! ticket is available to download at Smithsonian.com/museumday. Visitors who present the Museum Day Live! ticket will gain free entrance for two at participating venues for one day only, Saturday, September 28. One ticket is permitted per household, per e-mail address.
