On Saturday, September 27, 2014, the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming, opens its doors free of charge to ticketholders for Smithsonian magazine’s tenth annual Museum Day Live! A nationwide event, Museum Day Live! offers free admission to visitors presenting a Museum Day Live! ticket—either print or viewed on a mobile device—at a participating museum or cultural institution.
Inclusive by design, Museum Day Live! represents the Smithsonian’s commitment to make learning and the spread of knowledge accessible to everyone, giving museums across all 50 states the opportunity to emulate the admission policy of the Smithsonian museums in Washington, D.C. Last year’s event drew more than 400,000 participants, and this year’s event expects record-high participation.
“Museum Day Live! is a great way for us to share our world-class museums free to everyone who has an appreciation for cultural institutions of the caliber of the Smithsonian,” says Marguerite House of the Center of the West’s Public Relations Department. “We hope many in the community as well as those traveling through will take advantage of this annual opportunity once again.”
As an Affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, the Center of the West works with the Smithsonian on specific projects and exhibits, most notably its current exhibition of extraordinary firearms from the collection of the Institution’s National Museum of American History. Titled Journeying West: Distinctive Firearms from the Smithsonian, the exhibition is currently on view in the Center’s Cody Firearms Museum and remains at the Center at least through fall 2015.
The Museum Day Live! ticket is available for download at Smithsonian.com/museumday/live. Visitors who present the Museum Day Live! ticket at the Center’s admissions desk gain free entrance for two for one day only, Saturday, September 27. One ticket is permitted per household, per e-mail address. Members of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West are always admitted free.
