If you really look around, you’ll find that art is everywhere. This is especially true at a museum like the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming. On January 22, the Center celebrates art with a “Let’s pARTy!” Family Fun Day, 3 – 7 p.m.
“Participants can unleash their wild and creative sides at this event,” says the Center of the West’s Interpretive Specialist Emily Buckles. “This night is designed a little differently than most of our Family Fun Days,” she adds. Participants can sign-up for short art classes during the event. Each class, 45 minutes in length and designed for kids 6 years of age and older, is intended to give students some skills that they can take home with them.
The schedule for the classes is as follows:
- 3:30 – 4:15 p.m. Introduction to Drawing
- 4:30 – 5:15 p.m. All About Paints
- 5:30 – 6:15 p.m. Clay-a-rama
Sign-up for each class takes place 30 minutes before that session and seating in each class is limited. “This is something new we’re trying at this Family Fun Day,” says Buckles. “We always hear from our community members that they would like more art offerings, and we thought this would provide a little instruction for kids who want to take art to a new level.”
For family members who aren’t looking for formal instruction, the event also includes scavenger hunts and crafts. Local artists demonstrating throughout the Center will give people the opportunity to see art in action. As always, participants can enjoy a complimentary family-friendly dinner from 5 – 6:30 p.m.
Thanks to a grant from the R. Harold Burton Foundation, Family Fun Days are free for Center of the West member families, and just $10 for non-member families.
On March 18, the Center hosts its final Family Fun Day of the winter, a “Spring Fling.” For more information on Family Fun Days and other family-oriented activities, contact Buckles at firstname.lastname@example.org or 307-578-4110.
