The Buffalo Bill Center of the West celebrates Earth Day with free admission all day on Saturday, April 27, the Saturday following the “official” date of Earth Day. The Center store is having a sale—20 percent off storewide!
This year’s Earth Day celebration offers two contests encouraging participants to get creative while also brushing up on their recycling skills.
Recycled Vehicle Race: Participants of all ages are invited to participate in the annual Recycles Vehicle Race, create a personalized and unique recycled vehicle from collected materials, and race the vehicle down a ramp against other cars during our Earth Day 2019 celebration. Be sure to register for the appropriate age category. There are cash prizes! Cars should be built by the primary person entering the competition. If the participant is a child, adult guidance is allowed.
Recycled Art Design Contest: The Center is also featuring a new competition, the Recycled Art Design Contest otherwise known as RAD. This new competition promotes conservation through unique art constructed from recycled materials. Artists of all disciplines and skill levels are encouraged to submit their projects, which must be family friendly and relate to the theme of Earth Day. Individuals or families may submit projects for the RAD contest from now through April 12.
Visit centerofthewest.org/event/earth-day to learn more about the specific requirements regarding each contest.
Kicking off the event on Friday, April 26, is a showing of the thought-provoking documentary The True Cost (2015). Running time 92 minutes. Visitors are welcome to bring their own popcorn!
Family activities will be available from Noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. Community organizations will have exhibits teaching the importance of conservation, including the Buffalo Bill Center of the West’s live raptors. The Lion’s Club Annual Tree Giveaway will be sending visitors home with their very own tree cuttings to plant!
