Today was a big day for us! The birds had their first outreach program outside the Center! To date they’ve been seen by over 4,700 people, but it has always been here on their “home turf.” A big part of the program, however, involves us taking the birds to do programs at other venues …schools, churches, etc.
Today we traveled to an assisted living home in Powell, Wyoming. Of course I was a bit nervous since it was the first time they have all been in a vehicle together, the first time they will all be doing a program like this together, and the first time most of the volunteers have helped with a program. That’s a lot of variables. When you throw in that they will be in a building they have never been in and looking at people they’ve never seen, it can be a bit scary.
I had no reason to be nervous, however. The birds were amazing! The volunteers were amazing! The audience was amazing! It was a very fun afternoon and I don’t think I could have been more proud of the birds and volunteers if I tried!
Thanks to Anne, Rose, LaDaun, and Sammi for helping, and a special thanks to Dana for bringing us to visit your wonderful residents!
