We spent the night at Shoshone Lodge on the North Fork of the Shoshone River right after a gorgeous snow storm had moved out of the area.
There was fresh snow and blue sky. We skied three miles up to the East Gate of Yellowstone National Park, and although we didn’t see any moose, we saw fresh moose tracks in the snow.
Shoshone Lodge isn’t usually open in the winter, but you can get together with friends and rent a number of cabins and they will cook these amazing meals for you. In the evening you put your feet up by the fire and cozy in for a winter’s evening of wine and tales of moose tracks and bird sightings.
Yellowstone rangers have cleared another seven miles of ski tracks into the park. It is mostly uphill but gentle enough if you go slowly and take in the amazing vistas. The return is downhill and easy.
