With the likes of William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody and his cohorts as town founders, it’s no surprise that Cody, Wyoming, has a tale to tell. In fact, it has a treasure trove of stories to tell, and a newly released mobile app from TravelStorys makes it easy.
The Buffalo Bill Center of the West and the Park County Travel Council partnered with TravelStorys to create a new GPS-triggered audio tour of historic downtown Cody. The free app offers an interactive, memorable experience of Cody and connects listeners to the landscape in a unique way.
“We are honored to be a part of this extraordinary project,” says Marguerite House, the Center’s media coordinator. “As we prepare for our Centennial in 2017, we’re reminded of the wealth of stories that sprang up in our own saga as well as the narrative of Cody. TravelStorys has ‘the three Es’ going for it: entertaining, educational, and engaging.”
Acting as a starting point for exploration, the GPS-triggered tour tells little-known stories about the area for visitors and locals alike—”like having a personal tour guide with you along on your excursion” TravelStorys explains. The Cody tour has the archetypal bank robbery, a surprise donor to the town’s library [Andrew Carnegie], Buffalo Bill’s Hotel in the Rockies named after his daughter Irma, and the Chamberlin Inn which boasted numerous celebrity guests including noted author Ernest Hemingway.
“Storytelling is the captivating and enduring way that we entertain and communicate best with each other and learn about places,” said Story Clark, founder and CEO of TravelStorys. “I wanted to use mobile app technology as a portal to, rather than a barrier from, connecting us to great places. Even if a listener never gets out of their car, they will now be able to connect with the land in a meaningful and unique way.”
The high-quality TravelStorys mobile app and tours are accessible via smartphones and tablets, and available at the Apple Store and Google Play. For more information, visit the TravelStorys website, and for more about the Center of the West, visit centerofthewest.org.
