The first time this was exhibited, in the Gilcrease Foundation's retrospective, was in 1949 under the title Deaf Bull, Crow.

 

Sharp painted at least two other portraits of Deaf Bull.  One, at the Woolaroc Museum, was painted in 1905, the year Deaf Bull died. (see related image, #522)
