This is one of several canvases that Sharp produced  in the mid-1920s which celebrated his studio as a creative space. The painting was exhibited in the 1926 Traxel Art Galleries show in Cincinnati, J. H. Sharp's Exhibition of Indian Paintings and Western Landscapes and was illustrated on the cover of the catalogue brochure.
