Girls of Taos; [Taos Indian Women]

This painting was first shown in late 1927 in the exhibition Indian and Other Paintings at the Traxel Art Galleries in Cincinnati under the title of Girls of Taos.

Being an especially large and complex work, it was listed as his first entry in the gallery's catalogue brochure.

Another work of this theme, Shelling Corn, was also exhibited at the same showing. (related image, #234 a)  It was probably this second work that was sent for exhibition at the National Academy of Design in 1928.
