Bought by Albert Erkenbrecher in late 1889 or early 1890 (Letter from JHS to Gest, Jan. 23, 1892, “Two years ago Mr. A. Erkenbrecher bought a study head from me. I exhibited it in Clarkes at the time. While it was there, Mr. E…gave the picture to the Museum through Mr. Edwards, I believe…From some blunder it has been stored away…and just unearthed. The picture is now at my studio, and want to have it photographed, and then sent to Museum.”)
