American Horse

Penciled on dust cover on verso: American Horse - Sioux 1897-8 Same great reputation in Custer Battle with most noted ones. When I wanted some personal history or exploits he laughed and said "everybody knows"! Did not seem to care to brag. Get a lot of old time Indians together, and they loved "counting coups"

This is possibly the portrait of American Horse that was exhibited at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, NY and the Cosmos Club in Washington, DC in 1901. For another version, see #113.
