This is the most complex of five versions of Flat Iron that Sharp produced for his early traveling shows that started at the Cincinnati Museum in October of 1900, Special Exhibition of Indian Portraits Painted from Life. It went from there to be included in an exhibition of the same title that appeared at the Detroit Museum of Art in January, 1901 and then to the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York and the Cosmos Club in Washington, DC.
