Winter Camp near Custer Battlefield; [Winter Camp]

This landscape view was probably taken just south of Sharp's Crow Agency studio.  It is thought to be a work titled Winter Camp near Custer Battlefield.  If that is correct, it was first exhibited in 1908 at The Closson Galleries in Cincinnati.  That work traveled widely with one of Sharp's most ambitious circulating exhibitions, A Collection of Paintings by J. H. Sharp.  Museum visitors between 1908 and 1909 in St. Louis, Indianapolis and Kansas City would have enjoyed its frigid grip.
