Chief Crazy Horse

This is one of two portraits Sharp made of this venerated Oglala Lakota leader. This, like the other version, was acquired by Thomas Gilcrease and displayed in Sharp's retrospective exhibition in 1949. Since Crazy Horse died in 1877, both works were painted posthumously from photographs. (see related image, #80)
