This portrait of the Oglala Lakota chief Crazy Horse was painted from a photograph since the Sioux leader died in 1877, long before Sharp even considered becoming a painter. It was acquired by Thomas Gilcrease in the mid-1940s along with another posthumous oil portrait. (see related image, #69)
