Rain in the Face, Sioux; [Rain in the Face]

In the Gilcrease Foundation's catalogue for Sharp's 1949 retrospective exhibition, there were two versions of Rain in the Face. A note on one of them quoted Sharp as saying that the subject was "A noted Hunkpapa Sioux warrior and chief and a leading participant in the Custer Massacre. Rain in the Face was born in 1835 and died in 1905."

A second portrait of this Sioux hero is also in the Gilcrease Museum collection. (see related image, #450)
