Poet, actor, and Cody, Wyoming, local Evan Wambeke joins us in our Whitney Western Art Museum as Artist-in-Residence from July 29 through August 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
During your visit to the Center of the West, stop by and spend some time with Evan, who will be hosting daily poetry workshops. These include short poetry readings and lessons to help our visitors write their own poems inspired by Whitney artworks. Each daily workshop focuses on a different poetry form.
Evan’s residency culminates in a larger poetry reading/performance in the afternoon on Friday, August 2.
Evan Wambeke curated the first digital “Curated by Community” exhibition featured on the Whitney Museum’s Bloomberg Connects guide. His exhibition, The West in Form: Imagining a Cowboy’s World Through Formal Poetry and Western Art, features poems he wrote inspired by 10 artworks in the Whitney’s collection, along with audio recordings of the poems. Evan also appears as William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody in the summer production of Wild West Spectacular, the Musical at the downtown Cody Theatre. This is Evan’s ninth season in the role. Visit www.codywildwestshow.com for the details about the show, which runs on select days from June 27 through August 10, 2024.
