Whitney Western Art Museum's innovative digital guide
Our Whitney Western Art Museum’s new digital guide is accessible through the Bloomberg Connects app, a free arts and culture application created by Bloomberg Philanthropies. Now visitors—in the Whitney at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West or from anywhere in the world—can access the Whitney’s world-class art collection and special exhibitions through the app.
How to use the guide
⇒ Download the free Bloomberg Connects app by clicking this link or pointing your phone’s camera at this QR code. (No personal or payment information is needed. Allow location tracking while using the app for maximum functionality.)
⇒ While visiting the Whitney, locate the label next to an artwork and point your phone’s camera at the QR code to access object-specific audiovisual content on the guide. We ask that you wear headphones or listen quietly to any audio or video content. Transcripts are available in the app.
⇒ Alternatively, tap the “Lookup” magnifying glass at the bottom of your screen and enter the lookup number (listed on the artwork label) using the keypad.
⇒ If you are not at the museum, you can still enjoy the images, audio, and other materials in the guide. Open the app and search for “Whitney West” to access the home page of our guide. The app will help guide you through the Whitney, the Center of the West, and special exhibitions.
⇒ You’ll find audio and video content from artists, curators, and special guests for in-depth explorations of artworks. Accessibility features include descriptive text for screen readers.
⇒ The guide contains a handy map feature (see icon at the bottom of the screen). Tap any building icon shown on the Exterior Map to access maps for additional art locations in the Center of the West.

The Whitney & More
Our digital guide currently allows users to explore our Whitney Western Art Museum’s main gallery space, Curator Highlights, and the current special exhibition James Bama’s Photographs: Portraits of the West in our John Bunker Sands Photography Gallery. We in the process of adding content from our mezzanine-level Grainger Gallery.
Future plans include expanding the guide to other museums in the Buffalo Bill Center of the West’s complex.
