Behind the Scenes in the Cody Firearms Museum & McCracken Research Library
Vault Tours offer rare, behind-the-scenes access to the Cody Firearms Museum and the McCracken Research Library—two of the nation’s most significant repositories of firearms history, archives, and material culture. These exclusive experiences take you past public galleries and into secured spaces where artifacts and documents are preserved, studied, and safeguarded.
Your tour begins in the Cody Firearms Museum, where your guide highlights remarkable pieces as the group moves toward non-public areas. Along the way, you’ll don white gloves and handle select artifacts under the guidance of museum experts. The experience continues inside the museum vault, home to rare, prototype, and never-before-seen firearms that reveal stories of craftsmanship, innovation, and American history.
Tours also include behind-the-scenes access to the Winchester Repeating Arms Company Records in the McCracken Research Library, where guests discover the archival heart of the Center—original photographs, manuscripts, and collections that illuminate the people, places, and moments that shaped the American West. Led by knowledgeable staff and limited to small groups, every vault tour offers personal pacing, rich conversation, and an unforgettable look inside one of the world’s premier collections.
