Join retired National Park Service wildlife manager Sue Consolo-Murphy as she shares highlights from The Bears of Grand Teton, the first comprehensive history of black and grizzly bears in Jackson area. Drawing on 30 years of experience, Consolo-Murphy explores bears’ interactions with people, from dude ranches and livestock to the rise of “celebrity bears” like Grizzly 399, and the challenges of managing species under the Endangered Species Act.
About the Speaker
Sue Consolo-Murphy retired in 2019 as chief of science and resource management at Grand Teton National Park and John D. Rockefeller Jr. Memorial Parkway. Over her 40-year Park Service career, she earned national recognition for her leadership in natural resource management and contributions to grizzly bear recovery. She now serves on the Executive Council for the Coalition to Preserve America’s National Parks.
