In 1922, Henry and Louise Sharp traveled to Europe. They stopped in France for a while and then turned south to Spain. The artist wanted to reacquaint himself with the rich collections of the Prado Museum in Madrid where he had been so inspired in his younger years, 1895.
During their stay in Spain, the Sharps journeyed to Granada to embrace the glories of the Alhambra. (related image, #714a) This oil sketch was made at the site’s front gate which he also photographed. (related image, #714b)
Two companion oil sketches of the Granada castle were also made. (see #s 713 and 715)
