Artist-in-Residence: Lee Post – ‘The Boneman’

June 23, 2022 @ 9:00 am - July 8, 2022 @ 6:00 pm MDT

Artist-in-Residence Lee Post – aka “The Boneman”

Draper Natural History Museum

June 20–July 5
Monday–Saturday, 9 a.m.–6 p.m.

Lee Post, aka “The Boneman,” joins us at the Center of the West Monday–Saturday from June 20–July 5, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a very special workshop in the Draper Natural History Museum. Over the course of these two-and-a-half weeks, Lee works with Draper staff and volunteers to articulate an adult grizzly bear and an adult mountain lion specimen. View the progress each day as we build these specimens bone-by-bone from the ground up.

Lee Post is based in Homer, Alaska, and has had a lifelong obsession with natural history. Lee has more than 30 years experience articulating specimens ranging from a 41-foot sperm whale, sea turtles, bears, horses, moose, lynx, caribou, birds, alligators, and wolves among others. He has authored ten books on the preparation and articulation of animal skeletons and teaches a Marine Mammal Articulation course each fall at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Specimens articulated by Lee and volunteer teams are on display in five states and three countries.

The Center of the West and the Draper Museum are thrilled to host Lee as a featured Artist-in-Residence. We invite our visitors to take a moment to visit with Lee and the Draper staff during his residency. The articulation can be viewed in real time in the Seasons of Discovery exhibit hall of the Draper Natural History Museum at the Center. Where possible, we will also try to live-stream this event, as technology allows.
