Peter’s achievements and his contributions to expanding knowledge and appreciation of American Art of the West were monumental. During the 20 years of his leadership, he built the Center into one of America’s great museums. He was committed to excellence at every level of the museum. He expanded the Center’s permanent collections, nurtured relationships with important art collectors, guided the addition of three new museums, and assembled an invaluable research library. He valued the role education played in museums, establishing and always encouraging many unique educational initiatives at the Center.
Hassrick Programs include a variety of engaging, creative educational events for all ages, serving Cody’s community as well as visitors from around the globe. Its foundational programs will align with Peter’s principal scholarly interest in 19th and early 20th century American Art of the West. The goal is to attract nationally recognized scholars, both established and emerging, to come to Cody and to speak on 19th or early 20th century American Art of the West. These lectures and symposia also recognize and build upon the depth and national significance of the Whitney’s permanent collections, helping to build greater national and local awareness of the Whitney’s collections.
Programs are primarily held in Cody, Wyoming, and made broadly accessible through recording and publishing.
