Bull Head, Gros Ventre; [Chief Bull Head]

Penciled on cardboard backing: 1897-8 Chief Bull Head Gros Ventre - A French-Canadian name - Their home on the border near the Blackfeet - All the N.W. Indians worth while the Sioux could muster were in Custer fight and before. He had a fine reputation as a warrior.

This is an early portrait, but not painted in the late 1890s. The style of the work and the signature type would suggest a date closer to 1905.
