A label affixed to this portrait reflecting Sharp’s recollections reads: "Fire-Bear-Crow- A policeman for 20 yrs. & one of the greatest characters & reliable men on reservation. In last Crow War, rode right into them, shot down medicine man & ring leader, delivered them to the General at Fort Custer. Many other brave acts. Kindly & jolly, absolutely unflinching in duty. Has a whiskey nose, tho. he has never drank at all."
The style of the signature would indicate that this was painted in 1902 or before.
