Penciled on verso: "Bull Child. Head Medicine Man of Blackfeet- in ceremonial robe. After [Clark] Wissler. J.H.Sharp." Inscribed on frame on verso: "Presented to Thomas Gilcrease by Mr. J.H. Sharp."

 

The entry in the catalogue for Sharp's retrospective exhibition at the Gilcrease Foundation in 1949 described the robe as follows: "His ceremonial robe consists of buckskin, eagle feathers and ermine tails.  The emblems represent the sun, moon and mourning star. The Blackfeet were sun worshippers."
