This portrait was first exhibited at the Cincinnati Art Museum's show Special Exhibition of Indian Portraits by Mr. J. H. Sharp in October 1900. It appeared a year later at Sharp's exhibition at the Cosmos Club in Washington, DC and was purchased by the Smithsonian Institution from there.
