Sharp sold this portrait of this Blackfeet dance chief, Elk Horn, to Butler in March 1906. (sales ledgers, Sharp Papers) Elk Horn was a favorite model for the artist, and several other versions were produced at that time. See, for example, #s 21, 402 and 623.
