The History of Pahaska Tepee

A free talk by Bob Richard

Thursday, December 21, 2023
Noon–1 p.m.

Join us for the December presentation of 2023 in our “Local Lore with Bob Richard” series of free talks hosted by our McCracken Research Library.

For this talk Bob shares stories and photographs from throughout the history of Pahaska Tepee, the hunting lodge William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody built just outside the East Entrance of Yellowstone National Park at the turn of the 20th century. The talk includes photos and details about the buildings, the importance of Pahaska in tourism between Cody and the Park, and the role of the Coe family in the lodge’s history.

Kid Wilson, driving his 1915 White Motor Co. 45-C touring car, with a load of tourists bound for Pahaska Tepee, leaving from in front of the Irma Hotel. Wilson ran his touring company from the Park Garage, across Sheridan Ave. from the Irma; that building eventually became the Cody Theater. Coe family archives photo, used with permission.

With a wealth of knowledge about the Cody and Yellowstone National Park areas, Bob has a lifetime of stories to share with future generations. For 2023, the “Local Lore with Bob Richard” series continues every other month throughout the year. Most talks take place on the third Thursday of the month.

The talks in this series are gathered in this YouTube playlist.
