The National Park Service encouraged everyone to “Get up, get out there, and find your park!” The Centennial celebration—which officially took place on August 25, 2016—kicked off the beginning of its second century of service with a plethora of activities and events scheduled in national parks all around the nation. Additionally, they offered free admission into all 412 national parks August 25 through August 28, 2016.
Many of these exciting events are taking place in our very own backyard at Yellowstone National Park. Take a look below at some of the Find Your Park Experiences that are happening right around the corner—you won’t want to miss out! For a full list of events, click here.
- An Evening at the Arch: Yellowstone National Park and its partners host a special Centennial event to highlight the importance of public and private partnerships, and recognize the completion of the first phase of the Gardiner Gateway Project on August 25. Additionally, the event features a line-up of talented performers.
- Ride a Bike to a Geyser: Enjoy a two mile, round trip journey to experience some of nature’s greatest wonders. The trip includes three stops—Castle Geyser, Daisy Geyser, and Riverside Geyser. To plan your sight-seeing adventure, click here!
- Look Out from the Top of Mount Washburn: With a peak elevation of 10,243 feet, Mount Washburn is one of Yellowstone’s most popular hiking destinations. In addition, this great attraction is also one of three fire lookout stations in Yellowstone. Don’t have time to make the hike? Not a problem! You can also watch views from Mount Washburn on a webcam.
- Picture Yourself at Old Faithful: Watch eruptions of Old Faithful from the viewing area, enjoy a trek around the boardwalks, or even take a guided tour to learn more about one of Yellowstone’s greatest traditions. Or watch Old Faithful erupt live on one of Yellowstone’s many webcams.
So, if you’re traveling to the Park to get a taste of the centennial celebration, don’t forget that the Center of the West is the perfect place to kick off sight-seeing expeditions into Yellowstone.
