Walks the Country, Full Face; [Walks the Country. Sioux]

This portrait was painted in about 1900 at Pine Ridge, South Dakota and exhibited, along with two other versions, that year at the Cincinnati Museum. The next year it appeared in the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York.  A companion work, Walks the Country, Small Profile was purchased by Joseph Butler, Jr. and  is in the collections of the Butler Institute of American Art. (#345) Another version is owned by the Hearst Museum, #153.
