This profile portrait of a Sioux man was painted in Pine Ridge, South Dakota in 1900.  It was exhibited that year in the Cincinnati Museum and the next year at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York along with fifty-four other portraits.  A companion work, a full-face portrait of the same date, belongs to the Rockwell Museum.
