Mary Tailfeather - Blackfoot

It is thought that Phoebe Hearst acquired this affectionate portrait along with 78 other "Indian portraits, pictures & studies"  in December 1901. (sales ledgers, Sharp Papers)  Despite that assumption, this portrait, or another unknown version of it, were widely exhibited in such places as New York's National Arts Club in December 1902 and Boston at the St. Botolph Club in January 1903  It also appeared in the10th Exhibition of the Cincinnati Art Club in the spring of 1903.

See other portraits of Mary's father. (related images, #473 and 133)  Sharp is quoted in that entry as saying Mary was "one of the most beautiful Indian women I have seen."
