Evening on the Yellowstone

Evening on the Yellowstone seems like a rather unlikely title for this work when one thinks of the Crow Reservation today. Though the water course pictured here appears as bit small for the Yellowstone River that flows through much of Montana, the Crow Reservation in 1901 extended north to the Yellowstone River. Its current northern reservation boundary was defined in 1904 when the tribe was forced to cede a substantial chunk of land that included the portion near the Yellowstone River. (see Hoxie, 1989, 83)
