This is one of probably two portraits Sharp made of this Blackfeet man. One was exhibited at the St. Botolph Club in Boston in early 1903. (See related image, #370) According to Sharp’s notes in his catalogue for the 1949 retrospective exhibition in Tulsa, John Ground was a "noted chief and counselor."
