This painting relates thematically and stylistically to a painting titled today Cheyenne Teepees, Lame Deer. Montana of about 1916. See # 578. However, it was painted at Crow Agency just south of Sharp’s studio and features the artist’s Blackfeet buffalo hide teepee in the foreground.
A smaller study for this, #631, depicts the same teepees with the grand cottonwood trees in the distance.
