This large, unsigned study is a companion work to Dividing the Chief’s Property (related image, #1). It, like its associated canvas, was given by Sharp to his friend Carolyn Riebeth, Guil Reynolds’ daughter. Unlike the latter, it was never converted to a finished painting.
