The Medicine Man

In Sharp's note for Frank Phillips written at about the time of his sale of this canvas in 1940, the artist discussed the role of medicine men in Plains cultures. According to Sharp, they served as councilors and leaders but most importantly as men with the power to "cure the sick." (Woolaroc archives)
