After the Funeral

Inscribed on brass plate: After the Funeral.

This is the smaller of two studies for the finished work, Dividing the Chief's Estate, #70. It is signed by the artist, but may have been so inscribed only after Thomas Gilcrease purchased it in the mid-1940s.  The other study is #1.  For a discussion of the relationship between the three works, see entry #70.
