According to known Sharp exhibition catalogues for the mid-teens, there is no firelight scene with Frank Martinez portrayed. This model, however, looks more like John Hunting Son than Frank. There was one painting offered for sale in 1916 at Cincinnati’s Hotel Gibson galleries titled Juan, Firelight that may be this work. The style and pose are quite similar to that of The Old War Shield, a Sharp painting of about 1915. (see related image, #360)
