This handsome portrait of Jerry Elk Foot (Geronimo Mirabal) was probably painted in 1926.  It was possibly the painting  exhibited as Jerry in 1926 at the Traxel Art Galleries in Cincinnati in a show titled Indian Paintings and Western Landscapes. It was posed in front of Sharp's adobe hearth in his Taos studio.

Jerry relates to a work painted that year, The Redstone Pipe, which pictures John Hunting Son and Jerry seated in a teepee setting holding a different pipe. (see related image, #504)  Also related are a couple of similarly posed portraits, including The Ceremonial Drum that was displayed on the same Cincinnati exhibition as Jerry.
