Our April 10 program takes place at the recently opened Mineta-Simpson Institute (MSI) at the Heart Mountain Interpretive Center. Rebecca McKinley, Deputy Director of Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation, explores the Boy Scout meeting of Secretary Norm Mineta and Senator Al Simpson and celebrate their legacy of empathy, courage, and cooperation. She delves into the vision and spirit of the MSI and introduce the audience to one of our most recent projects of cross-cultural collaboration between the Japanese American and the Apsáalooke (Crow) people. Enjoy a short film exploring this project and a native drumming performance by Johnny Tim Yellowtail (Apsáalooke), Heart Mountain’s Historic Site Caretaker.
Rebecca McKinley joined the Heart Mountain’s leadership in May 2023 as the Deputy Director. She brings a wealth of museum, collections, leadership, and development experience supplemented by an academic background in anthropology and bioarchaeology. She has worked for nearly a decade in Wyoming museums including; Special Events Coordinator and Donor Advisor at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody; Curator and then Interim Executive Director of the Washakie Museum & Cultural Center in Worland, Wyoming; and Collections Intern for the Meeteetse Museums in Meeteetse, Wyoming.
Rebecca was honored to be the project director for the newly opened exhibit on the lives and friendship of Secretary Norm Mineta and Senator Al Simpson.
