The Greeting
By George Carlson
1987–1988
Location: Cashman Greever Garden
The Greeting, by George Carlson, resides in a quiet side area of our Cashman Greever Garden. The Blackfoot Indian depicted holds his buffalo robe open with his right arm extended; he holds what appears to be an eagle feather fan in his right hand. George Carlson (b. 1940).
Carlson created a monumental version of this sculpture for the entry to the Eitlejorg Museum of the American Indian and Western Art. This version came to the Buffalo Bill Center of the West’s Whitney Western Art Museum in 1992, and was added to our repertoire of outdoor sculpture in the redesigned Cashman Greever Garden in 2017.
