Old Woman Bear, Cheyenne; [Old Woman Bear]

Penciled on dust cover: Old Woman Bear – Cheyenne Medicine Chief – Painted at Lame Deer, Mont. 1905 has earth paint on face and hair – His "medicine" is in the little bag on necklace – "Medicine" is always spiritual – Medicine men are the equivalent of our priests, – leaders, advisors & friend –  Some wield as great influence (or more) as the chiefs – and one of the best Indian portraits I have painted.
