Sharp’s sales ledgers indicate that Gilcrease purchased this landscape directly from the artist in January, 1950. (Sharp Papers)
It is not known how often Sharp painted the Grand Canyon area in snow conditions. He was there often over many years, His large oil, A Hunting Party, was painted under a snowy mantle around 1920. This may ally with that visit. (related image, #697)
