A painting titled Leaf Down – Taos Girl was exhibited at the Traxel Art Galleries in Cincinnati in December 1928. However, that work was illustrated in the Cincinnati Enquirer (12/2/1928) as Sage and Thistle and again on 12/1/29 as Down Leaf, Taos Indian Girl. (see related image, #39) A couple of portraits simply titled Leaf Down were exhibited in 1929 at the Traxel Art Galleries. This then could reasonably be one of those.
About a decade later, this painting was apparently still unsold. Sharp offered it or one of the two similar oils, #s 212a or 212b, at the Kreimer & Brother, Co. galleries in 1936, according to a review of the show in the Cincinnati Enquirer (11/21/1936). It was described as Leaf Down which showed the sitter "brilliantly illuminated by the light of a fire which throws her shadow in a dramatic way on the wall of the adobe."
